Your chances of getting it wrong are pretty high

There’s several ways to go about motivation. The most popular being holding yourself to unrealistic standards.

As they say, « If you aim for the moon… »

Not sure who they are, but If I aim for the moon, I’ll be pretty bumped to end up in the stars.

Unrealistic standards, may make you aim (and land) high, but they mostly make you unappreciative.

It’s silo thinking.

Your mind obsesses over one dot on the map, completely over looking the broader picture (aka your other areas of unrealistic standards).

You’re in the stars, but you’re not on the moon or any other planet you were aiming for. And how could you be everywhere ?

I could tell you to work on gratitude, and that’d probably help. But you don’t want to lose your edge, you won’t stop aiming for more. Even when you’re grateful.

I get it.

You want to aim high, enjoy the ride, and still get there. The 'enjoy the journey' advice isn't wrong - it's just incomplete for people like you.

So how do you make it work ?

You switch the game.

It’s no longer about obsessing over the moon on a particular day, another planet the next, and on the bad nights, obsessing about not getting any of them.

It’s about designing the best trajectory. Being obsessed with the mapping.

It’s about making it all work together. Your entire solar system.

If I challenged you to juggle with 5 objects of different size and weight, how would you approach it?

You’d try to drop the least amount of object at each turn. Maybe you’d start with three and incorporate more as you go.

You’ll go in, knowing your chances of getting it wrong are pretty high, figuring it out as you go.

Forget about the moon, figure out your solar system.

PS: I know it’s been a while. I was busy working on fulfilling unrealistic standards of my own (like trying to write weekly, working on a launch whilst maintaining my social life, traveling and going to the gym).

I am still figuring out this new solar system of mine, with my switch to a full time job. I am taking this time as an opportunity to work on my inner perfectionist and switch from a structured bi-weekly share to more spontaneous writing. Hope you enjoy it!
